So many changes pls

Change is a topic that is always discussed among students in this programme. Well, everyone has thought about a change that they would like to make in Plastic Arts.

On the one hand, the most critical aspect is related to facilities. Our faculty has quite bad conditions in its structure, materials and building in general. In our career there are many workshops, such as those of  ceramics, photography, painting, engraving, among others. Although they are large workshops, they lack many implements or there are devices that are in poor condition. For example, I work in the photography workshop. There are two rooms for this, one for analog photography and the other for digital photography. The analog photography workshop is used to develop rolls and photos. For this, various chemicals and a machine called an enlarger are used to develop the photo. As we work with chemicals, the room should have an exhaust fan to prevent us from breathing in these chemicals. However, it has been in poor conditions for more than 5 years and therefore it doesn't work (and we breathe toxic fumes) Also, there are enlargers in poor condition and there is not just one, there are at least 10 out of a total of 25 that are unusable (and each workshop has at least 25 students). This is the reality in several workshops, in addition to the fact that the floors are in poor condition, the doors don't close, machines or materials are missing. In addition, there is no emergency kit in any workshop and accidents such as cuts, burns or others tend to happen. Therefore, various arrangements are needed in terms of infrastructure.

On the other hand, regarding the curriculum, they made changes that were implemented this year. In fact, my curriculum almost doesn't exist because several subjects were changed and more were added. From what I have seen, several of these changes are being pretty good, at least in this first year. Now there is a more comprehensive and basic learning in first year, topics that are elementary are being studied to be able to choose a specialty in 2nd year. For instance, now students start learning History of the Visual Arts in first year, not from year two onwards. And it is incredible, I must say that I have seen a couple of classes because the teacher uploads them on YouTube and there are contents that I didn't see before. They began by seeing Classic Art (Hellenic, Roman, Egyptian, etc.) and now they have moved on to the Gothic. A lot of concepts, history and examples that I didn't see and that are very necessary to understand what follows later in the history of art. In general, the changes that I have seen are very good for the career curriculum. I hope that the next few years will continue like this.

Regarding the workload and lenght of classes, in my study plan, I found it quite reasonable. Well, our subjects are mostly practical, so it takes several hours to achieve the necessary learning for each technique according to the workshop. It even happens that many times we work after class hours because time is short. As for that, at least for me, it hasn't been a problem. Regarding theoretical subjects, I enjoyed them a lot, because the class hours were good and I dind't mind dedicating extra hours of study to work on this subject independently. In addition, in Plastic Arts there is the particularity, that most of the teachers are quite flexible and relaxed in their learning methods, so that when faced with any personal problem, one could talk about it and reach an agreement if we are late with the work.

As for technology in our degree, it is quite behind in some things. In fact, the library was renovated two years ago and it was updated in its content, books, and computers. Further, we now have a printer. However, there are machines and tools that need renovation or updating, such as the kilns that are used in ceramics;  or the lights and flashes of the digital photography workshop, because as they are so old, they have a different method of use and therefore, they deliver a slightly worse quality than most current tools.

Anyway, there are several problems in the programme, in different areas especially in infrastructure and technology, which require a large amount of money to be solved, so I think it would be too complex to solve them soon. However, the curriculum was revamped and from what I have seen and known it is working quite well. Besides, they continue to make modifications for future curricular changes, which speaks quite well for the teachers and their commitment to the career and the students.

I hope that some time this programme works in the best possible way in all its areas.
