So many changes pls

Imagen
Change is a topic that is always discussed among students in this programme. Well, everyone has thought about a change that they would like to make in Plastic Arts. On the one hand, the most critical aspect is related to facilities. Our faculty has quite bad conditions in its structure, materials and building in general. In our career there are many workshops, such as those of  ceramics, photography, painting, engraving, among others.  Although they are large workshops, they lack many implements or there are devices that are in poor condition. For example, I work in the photography workshop. There are two rooms for this, one for analog photography and the other for digital photography. The analog photography workshop is used to develop rolls and photos. For this, various chemicals and a machine called an enlarger  are used to develop the photo. As we work with chemicals, the room should have an exhaust fan to prevent us from breathing in these chemicals. However, it ...

Legal, safe and free

Hi everyone, I'm going to talk about the legalization of abortion. Currently, abortion in Chile is penalized except in 3 causes: risk of the mother's life, fetal infeasibility and rape. However, I believe that abortion should be legal in any circumstance.  On the one hand, when we talk about abortion, we also talk about the sexual and reproductive rights of a society, mainly of women. And this set of rights is linked to human rights, such as the right to health, to individual freedom or to live free from abuse. Although these 3 causes are an advance, they are not enough to protect women in terms of their health, sexuality, reproductivity, or freedom of choice, which shows discrimination by the Chilean government regarding women's rights. Even from the feminist perspective, it could be said that figure of women is directed towards a maternal role imposed by society and the State. Women are only see in terms of their reproductive function that serves society to stay on its ...

My Future Job

Imagen
I always think about my future work, what I would like to do, and I start dreaming of many possibilities. The truth is that I have many plans for my future. On the one hand, I like the academic area, so I would very much like to teach at the university level.  For this reason, I would like to get a Master's degree and a PhD at some point in my life. I still don't define exactly what specialty to study, although I like those related to art theory, such as aesthetics or history of art. I still have time to define it.  On the other hand, I would also like to dedicate myself to art in its practice. My specialty is photography, so I would like to improve and study more about the entire photographic world. Actually, I would like to study Direction of Photography to work in filmmaking. I would like to do this specialty abroad and work in other countries, to learn about the aesthetics and language of photography according to their own culture. I have a dream, and why not, I would lik...

Russian Doll

Imagen
Today I will recommend a very good series that I saw a while ago. Actually, I  hope that the second season comes out soon. This series I'm telling you about is called Russian Doll. It is an American  series and was created by Amy Poehler, Leslye Headland and Natasha Lyonne. In fact, the latter is the main actor of the series and has been awarded for her performance. I don't know how to say what the series is about because I could spoil it. What I can comment on is that it combines elements of comedy, drama, thriller and science fiction. And as its name says, in each episode different layers of the story are uncovered until  the core and the heart of the real conflict are known. The protagonist is called Nadia and she lives in a surreal loop on his 36th birthday and must face her own life and death.  It's the only thing I can say without spoilers. But, it's a very short series, it has 8 episodes of 30 minutes tops. So, you can see it in one day, like me. And when you ...

A little bit of luck

Imagen
First, I have to say that my boyfriend has an obsession with candy. He always buys a lot of cookies, chocolate or anything with a sweet taste. The last year, he bought a lot of Triton cookies. The wonderful part is that each package of cookies had a code that had to be entered on a web page and you were competing to win 2 tickets to Lollapalooza for the 3 days of the festival. And guess what? He got his prize for eating so many cookies: he won the tickets!!! And obviously, he invited me.... So, we went to Lollapalooza for 3 days and FREE!!!! Lollapalooza was on March 29, 30 and 31 last year at Parque O'Higgins in Santiago. It is an international festival that brings together so many artist and bands. Specifically, in this version of the festival, artists such as Sam Smith, The 1975, Interpol, Arctic Monkeys, Jorja Smith, Portugal, The Man, Rosalía and many more performed. And the truth is, we liked many of them, we really wanted to see all of them!! I think we saw all of the above ...

Next Trip: New Zealand

Imagen
A few months ago, I did a work about the heritage of a country that we would like to visit. And the truth is, I didn't know which country to choose, because I would like to visit many countries to know the different cultures, landscapes and the curiosities of each place. Finally, I chose New Zealand because I would love to photograph its beautiful landscapes, its diversity of animals and, of course, New Zealand society.  As I was saying, thanks to this work I learned a lot about this country. Actually, one of the things I didn't know is that it's divided into two larges and narrow islands: North and South Islands. In addition, it has almost 5 million inhabitants and this corresponds to 5% of the living population of the country, the rest are animals!   Also, I learned about its wonderful and impressive landscapes. One of them are the Waitomo Caves located on the North Island. These caves are home to thousands of fireflies, which in their larval state have the abilit...

The Last Post

Imagen
This is the first time that I must write a blog. It was a great experience because I had never written in english in this way. I think that I've evolved a lot since my first blog until now. I remember that in my first blog I didn't know what to write or how to do it, besides I was a very insecure and slow at the time of writing. But, now I'm faster at the time of writing, my language is more fluent and I have learned more vocabulary, also I remembered grammar rules that I had forgotten for lack of practice. Something that I liked a lot was to read the post of my classmates because they wrote about very varied and often very personal topics. After reading them, I knew a little about their lives, such as topics that interest them, anecdotes or personal stories. It was a surprise in some of them. Also, I enjoyed seeing the images of the post of my classmates because there were very varied photos of each other, like landscapes, artistic work of my classmates or family pictures...

Contemporary Art

Imagen
Since last year I have enjoyed studying History of Art because it has been very interesting and I have learned a lot. We have reviewed artistic periods and movements such as Renaissance, Baroque and Romanticism. This semester, in addition to History of Art, I have a new subject that is Theoretical Seminar, in which we are reviewing Contemporary Art. It has become my new favorite subject because we are reviewing others types of artistic expressions that defy the canon of the Academy. Before this subject, Contemporary Art was difficult for me to understand or I did not know what the artists wanted to say. However, I understand now that they are polemic artistic expression that respond, criticize and sometimes mock what is considered "good art" within the classical canon. Even, there are artists who do not want to say anything with their work, which is also a way to go against the canon. This reaction leads to new forms of artistic expressions and thus legitimizing other materia...

Daily Dose of Art.

Imagen
Since 3 year ago I have enjoyed studying the subject of History of Art because it has been very interesting and I have learned a lot. Surfing the internet, I discovered a mobile application called DailyArt. Everyday it publishes one piece of art with a short story about it and its author. Since this application keeps a record of all the works published so far, you have access to watch what has been posted, but the app doesn't allow users to search a specific work of art or an author. However, they solved this and created a website called Daily Art Magazine. Now, it is my favorite website to find information about history of art or current contemporary art news. Both the website and the mobile app are tools that present all information in a reliable and funny way.  Daily Art Magazine is very interesting and useful because there is a lot of information and photographs about history of art and it's always updated on what is happening in the art world.

My love for french fries

Imagen
Honestly, I think that I don't have a favorite food because I love so much all food. Also, I love eat. If I could I would eat all day, every day. However, french fries are the food that I love the most and I could say that it is my favorite food. I could eat french fries every day and I'm sure that they wouldn't bore me. I think there is nothing quite as addictive as french fries because they are crip, so salty and tasty. While it can be eaten on its own, as a snack, also is the best companion for many dishes, like burgers, fried chicken, steak, fried fish and even salads. However, I don't like cooked french fries in the world of fast food. I think it's because these are always  so oily, very salty or even, salt-free. Obviously, french fries homemade are the best option, the tastiest and you have control over the amount of ingredients such as salt and oil and the way it's cooked. In spite of my love for french fries, I should stop my addiction to them b...

My grandparents.

Imagen
Actually, I don't remember anything about this photo because I was 2 or 3 years old when it was taken. I only know that it was taken by my dad more than 20 years ago. However, it reminds me a lot of holidays with my family. When I was a little girl, my family used to vacation with my paternal grandparents. We usually went to Pichilemu because it's a coastal city and my grandparents love the beach. Back then, my dad had bought his first camera and he photographed his parents every time he could.  Last year I had to make an archive video with family pictures. I reviewed many of my family albums and then I found this beautiful photo of my grandparents. I saw it and obviously I had to use it for my personal archive video. So, I scanned and edited it to fix those marks of time. Finally, I saved it in my computer. I also have it in my cell phone because I feel like I have my grandparents a little bit closer to me.

My Favorite Movie

Imagen
My favorite movie in life is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Is a science fiction, romantic and drama film. The story is about a separated couple: Joel and Clementine. They have erased each other, through a memory erasing procedure, and then, they meet again.  The story takes place in Joel's mind during the memory erasing procedure. Joel finds himself revisiting his memories with Clementine. But when Joel sees the happiest memories, he tries to preserve some happy memory of her and his love of her. And there begins a tragic-comic flight from Joel and Clementine through Joel's Mind so as not to be erased. This is mind-bending, because you don't know what's going on in the movie. Personally, I didn't understand anything when I saw, but the game between reality and Joel's mind, besides it's surreal and dreamlike scenes are so amazing. I couldn't stop to seeing it!   I love this movie because it uses a non-linear narrative to explain an...

Camera Obscura

Imagen
My favorite technological device is the photographic camera because I can capture what happens around me and the way I see it. The first camera that I had was a gift from my dad. It was a digital camera. I used to capture many family meetings and happy moments with friends. Besides, I learned about the functions of the camera and how they operate, which helped me a lot to take better pictures. My favorite function is double exposure because I can combine two exposures to create a single image, for example, an image can be composed by a portrait and an abstract or landscape photo with a lot of textures. After that, I started photographing places and other things, such as the urban scene, what happens on the street, how people act and how they relate to each other. I discovered how much I love documentary photography. Currently, since I'm studying photography, I use the camera regularly because it helps me with university projects and, in my free time, I take pictures of places t...

The Revenge

Imagen
Hello everyone!!  Since I was a child I liked arts, specially photography, because my father attended a basic course of photography so he had cameras and books related to it. Photography is something that have always caught my attention. Besides, in my house's library there were so many books and I always looked at those that talked about history of art. However, when I graduated from school I didn't study arts, it wasn't even among my options. As I said in another post, I studied Odontology, but in 2016 when I was in my third year, I left and decided to study arts. In the beginning, I was very insecure about this decision because it was my second programme, my parents were angry and I had to move in a new city. Too many changes! Over time, my parents understood my decision and now they support me in everything, because they see me really happy. My experience at university until now has been so nice and I learned a lot about arts. I have discovered that I love...

A little piece of my life.-

Imagen
My name is Melisa Castillo Santander and I'm 24 year old. Currently, I'm an art student, but before, I studied Odontology for three years until I decided to leave this programme. In the beginning, I wanted to study it, because I wished to fix people's smiles and somehow change their lives. However, my classmates and the environment were not amiable. My classmates competed among them, some of them didn't talk to me because I was a rival for them, and my teachers encouraged them to compete. Finally, in my third year I went to classes just for 2 weeks and I gave up, because I realized that it was not what I wanted to do in my life. After that, I worked in several jobs, save up money and I decided to study something that I really like and that I've liked since I was a child: Arts. Now, I can't believe that I'm in the last year of my career! Because of this decision, I came to live in Santiago. Before, I lived in Talca with my mom, my sister, my brother ...
